Ti Pouri & 7 carri

Ti pouri, 7 carri- Deep fried flatbreads with 7 seven curries. This is a vegetarian dish.

Ti pouri, 7 carri is served mostly in Hindu weddings. It is vegetarian but is enjoyed by all. it consists of 7 different vegetable dishes with pouri and pickled chilli. Most people would eat this dish with rice as well.

Influenced by the Indian cultures this dish is full of herbs and spices.

In Mauritius when we say "kan to fer nou manz ti pouri, 7 carri kot toi la- When are you going to feed us this dish at your place", it means when's your wedding?

I made this dish for the Diwali festival that we celebrated last year, in Melbourne and shared with all my friends.

This dish consists of:

Dhall- Channa Dhall cooked with herbs and spices.

Rougaille creole with soya chunks- Mauritian light stew with soya nuggets.

Chokos.

Pumpkin.

Butterbeans and potato curry.

Green Banana cooked in spices.

Mango kutcha- pickled green mango.

Pickled Chilli.

Pourri.

It is also important to note that although this dish is influenced by the Indian cultures, the flavours of the spices with a mixture of the Mauritius herbs and "savoir vivre", the curries are really subtle and not as spicy as Indian food.

This dish is one of my favourites, but its very time-consuming to make, thus i only make tit once or twice a year for special occasions.

My friends always say how just one mouthful of this dish always reminds them of home and Mauritian weddings!
