Welcome to my blog: Mo la CuiZine!

I'm Tara and I am passionate about Mauritian food. I am a vegetarian, but I do love cooking chicken and meat for my family & friends!

My frugal journey.

I was first introduced to cooking by my mother when I was 10 years old. Those days, my father was quite sick and was in and out of the hospital. Thus, in order to help my mother, me and my brothers started doing the cooking. My mother would make most of the dishes and leave one or two for us to finish cooking, before going to visit my father in the hospital. As the years passed, my father got better, and cooking was not something that I would do on a day-to-day basis.

Eleven years ago, bored with my desk job in Mauritius, I decided to explore other options in life and took a flight to Melbourne. I was 23 years old, still living and catered for by my family.

Coming to Australia, I soon realised if I wanted to eat Mauritian food, I must start cooking since, I couldn’t find any Mauritian restaurants in Melbourne at that time. My love for Mauritian food soon developed into a passion, making me learn most of the recipes that I cook today from my mom and new ones along my cooking and learning journey. I first started with vegetarian dishes and when I got married, I started cooking for my non-vegetarian husband, and I love it.

I do have certain rules in the kitchen while cooking meat and vegetarian dishes at the same time, making sure no contact between the two as much as possible!

In the beginning, I was mostly cooking but now I started baking Mauritian pastries and cakes and I am over the moon.
